When is the last time you spent quiet time with God? No, not the quiet time right before bed. I mean the last time you devoted time to finding a spot without cell phones, TVs, MP3 players, or computers. A place where you can sit down with your Bible and talk to God. Jesus did it. In Mark chapter 1, verse 35 reads "Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed."
Jesus actually got up early and left the house to find a place of solitude so he could speak with His Father in Heaven. When is the last time you had that kind of conversation with your Father in Heaven? He is there waiting for you. He wants to listen and get close to you. Go to Him and talk.
Tonight in Youth Group I challenged everybody to try this: Sometime this week find a place to spend ten minutes with God. Bring your Bible with you and...
1. Pray. Ask God to direct your life so you can spend more time with Him. Ask God to reveal to you where you need some help and where you selfishly walk right by His arms. Ask Him to help you revolve your life around His schedule and make sure you revolve around Him in your everyday schedule.
2. Study. Open your Bible and read . Pick a book and go through it over the week or just pick a Psalm or just pick whatever you have been wanting to read or even just pick wherever you open it! The point is to read it and try to find what God is telling you. Find some lines that appeal to you and commit them to memory.
3. Praise. Praise God with words and song. If you have a favorite song, sing it. If you have a favorite psalm, read it. Whatever you do to show God praise, do it.
If you do this, you will be blessed. You'll be blessed to have spent some time in solitude with God. You will be blessed to have a deeper knowledge of the His Word. And you'll be blessed because you are seeking His kingdom and righteousness.
Try this. And please feel free to email me or post a comment and tell me how God blessed you through this!
